Teamspeak Setup

Install Teamspeak

If you don’t already have Teamspeak installed, click the button below to visit their page to download and install.

Connect to the Vanguard Teamspeak Server

In Teamspeak, select Connections from the menu and Connect from the dropdown, or use the shortcut Ctrl+S. This will bring up the connection window.

Enter VNGD.teamspeak3.com in the Server Nickname or Address field, and your RSI Handle in the Nickname field. When that’s done, hit Connect on the window.

Bookmarking

Select Bookmarks from the menu and Add To Bookmarks from the dropdown menu to bring up the bookmark manager with a new entry. Once you’ve bookmarked the server, it will show up in the Bookmarks dropdown, to make connections quick and easy.

Permissions Setup

Reach out to a Captain or Teamspeak Administrator and ask them to set your role and talk permissions for the server and Welcome Lobby.

Options and Settings

In Teamspeak, select Tools from the menu and Options from the dropdown, or use the shortcut Alt+P. This will open the options window.

Make sure to select your headphones in the Playback tab, and set your microphone and preferred push-to-talk key on the Capture tab.

There are a large number of options to play with and explore here, so feel free to browse, but once you’ve made sure your capture and playback are good to go, you’re ready to use the Vanguard Teamspeak to participate in events and operations!

Command Whisper Setup

Channel Commander is a feature of Teamspeak that allows you to speak to folks acting as unit or operation leaders, without rank-and-file members being interrupted. It allows clean and clear communications for command elements.

If you are a Claw Master or higher, or are otherwise interested in running as a unit leader or Commander, you will need to setup your Channel Commander Whispers.

Open your Whisper List Windows by selecting Whisper Lists from the Tools menu dropdown.

Channel Commander: Parent Channel

The Parent Channel Whisperlist will let you speak to any Channel Commander in the channel your current one is under, allowing you to effectively respond to orders or requests for information for the commander coordinating your unit with others.

Click New and hit the key you’d like to use for speaking to Command. This will create a new Whisper List in the Synchronized Whisperlists pane.

Set the Whisper to field to Groups, the Group Whisper Type field to Channel Commander, and the Group Whisper Target field to Parent Channel.

Channel Commander: Subchannels

Targeting Subchannels lets you speak to all Channel Commanders in channels your current one is the parent of.

Follow the same steps as above using a different hotkey, but select Subchannels for the Group Whisper Target.

Channel Commander: Complete Channel Family

Targeting Complete Channel Family allows you to speak to all Channel Commanders in the channel group you are currently a part of. It should be used sparingly, but can allow you to squawk emergency information to all command elements in the operation.

Follow the same steps as above using a different hotkey, but select Complete Channel Family for the Group Whisper Target.

Marking Yourself as Channel Commander

If you are a unit lead, you will need to mark yourself as the Channel Commander in order to receive Channel Commander whispers. Right click on your name, and select Channel Commander from the context menu. Note that multiple people can be set as Channel Commander in the same channel, and all will be able to send and hear Channel Commander Whispers, if we need to have multiple elements or if someone is shadowing an acting unit lead.

Other Whisperlists

Whisper Lists are a very flexible tool that allow you to target messages to any combination of individual members or channels. While we do not require any other Whisperlists for our operations other than the Channel Commander ones detailed above, feel free to explore them. Some example use cases:

  • Broadcasting messages to all members of an operation, including those not acting as a command element

  • Communicating with multiple members who may or may not be in the same channel

  • One-on-one private voice chat regardless of channel.

Visit the link below for a tutorial video on other ways Whisper Lists can be used.

OvERWOLF TS3 Overlay

Overwolf provides an overlay for Teamspeak that allows you to see who’s currently talking, who’s present in your channel, or even bring up a full Teamspeak window from within a running game. It is completely optional, and is considered to be bloatware by many, but if you would like an Overlay is by far the best option.

While Overwolf has Star Citizen support disabled by default, you can get it running relatively easily.

First, make sure Overwolf and the Overwolf Teamspeak Plugin is installed by clicking the Overwolf button in Teamspeak. You can also install it by visiting the page linked below.

Once Overwolf is installed, navigate to the application data for Overwolf on your machine. By default, it will be at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Overwolf

Find the XML file beginning with GamesList, open it in your text editor of choice, and search for “Star Citizen”.

Change the string for “LuancherNames” (not a typo) to “RSI Launcher.exe”, and change the entry for “InjectionDecision” from “None” to “Supported”. When you’re done, the entry should look like this.
