Providing instruction and training proficiency is core to Vanguard’s culture. From the basics of Star Citizen, to high level gameplay, we provide our members with the resources they need to play the game the way they want to play, and to set them up for success.

Standard Operating Procedure & Best Practice

Vanguard strives to evolve our understanding of the game as it develops, by building and maintaining best practice for all mechanics present in the ‘verse, and processes and tactics for applying that knowledge at the individual and team level. While some of that information is surfaced on this site, our internal library includes deep dives into many systems of the game.

Certifications

Vanguard’s Certification instruction takes our best practice and breaks it down into pieces relevant for different levels of proficiency and depth. Here are a few examples:

Basic Combat Flight Maneuvers (BCFM)

This course introduces the novice combat pilot to the skills required to properly pilot any single seat fighter, Heavy Fighter, gunships, and even some sub capital ships in a combat scenario.

Prerequisites None

Advanced Medical Training I & II

These certifications test the trainee’s knowledge of the MT203-SOP, including demonstration of injury impacts on health, movement, and operation, first aid, treatment efficacy, and the ISHII medical support protocol.

Prerequisites Basic Medical Training

Quantanium Mining II

Following courses introducing mining laser operation and the mechanics behind Quantanium mining, this Certification challenges members to pull off a perfect 100% Quantanium run, demonstrating their mastery of the current mining mechanics.

Prerequisites Quantanium Mining I

While Certifications are important for helping us pick the right folks for the job during large scale operations, they are never required nor expected for casual gameplay. Most Certifications have -one or more prerequisites; other certifications that must be completed before a member is eligible to attempt a certification.

Our certifications come in two flavors, Pass/Fail and Graded. The former is used for our basic training and knowledge certifications, where a single successful attempt demonstrates clear understanding, while the latter grades participants on a 1-5 scale, where a “1” denotes concept familiarity / introductory ability, a “3” denotes the member has a strong understanding, and a “5” denotes complete mastery of the topic or skill. For Graded certs, a “3” is the minimum grade required to satisfy any prerequisite requirements for the next level of training.

As gameplay changes, some Certifications may need significant revising. In the case that gameplay changes drastically, Certification versions may be updated, and members may need to partially or fully recertify to make sure their understanding matches.

Academies

Our Academies combine Certifications with specific direction to give members the right tools to be successful as both an independent player, and as a member of Vanguard as a whole. Our Wing Academies teach members core fundamentals to the gameplay they’re interested in, while other Academies focus on specialist roles and topics combined with goals to complete along the way.
