Regardless of the reasons for its delay — or at least the delay in getting to the hands of those outside the UEE Navy — RSI is thrilled to let the North Star finally shine. And shine it does, offering an impressive combination of firepower and versatility, not to mention speed relative to its class. Both a patrol ship for the UEE Navy and a flagship for system militias by design, the Polaris carries a standard hangar and large cargo hold. The ship has the flexibility to participate in missions far beyond combat directives: search and rescue, humanitarian relief, or similar activities especially useful to militias operating on the edge of settled space.

A custom-designed power system gives the Polaris unprecedented speed for a vessel of its size, with reportedly impressive agility when its mass is taken into account. Final performance numbers remain pending as the ship completes final testing ahead of its IAE 2954 debut — but the silhouette alone makes the promise credible.

The quad Size 10 torpedo launchers are the headline. A Polaris commander can strike at ships far larger than itself — and within the right scenario, cripple them with a single volley. Each launcher carries one torpedo in the tube and another six in a revolving loading bay, giving every launcher seven salvos before requiring crew assistance to reload. And reload they can, thanks to the adjacent cargo bay holding reserve ordnance.

The versatility of the Polaris' vast cargo bay is one of its most underappreciated assets. It can hold extra torpedoes for extended patrol operations, supplies for humanitarian relief, or even several vehicles if mission parameters demand it. The ship hangar directly above expands upon that versatility further — whatever craft is berthed there defines the Polaris' secondary capability envelope — and dual cargo lifts connect hangar and bay seamlessly.

The RSI Polaris is a picket and patrol ship for the Navy, and there is no doubt of its ability to fight. Yet the influence of the Empire's famed militia leaders during its design created a ship able to adapt to needs important to system militias: natural calamities, global pandemics, search and rescue on the edge of settled space.
