Dispatches from the frontier. Published by Vanguard.

The Starlancer series is a jumbo-sized model of the Freelancer built for deep space operations, emphasizing strong quantum and jump performance and traditional MISC sturdiness and amenities.
The Starlancer looks to capitalize on the commercial success of the Freelancer while incorporating modern design cues drawn from the forthcoming Odyssey. It is not a stretch to describe it as a doubling of the Freelancer's fundamental architecture โ dimensions scaled up to provide substantially increased operational capacity, crew amenities elevated beyond what the market typically expects at this price tier, and four crewmembers deployed with genuine efficiency rather than simply filling seats.

Shared features across all three variants โ the bones of a deep-space workhorse
Before we examine what makes the MAX distinct, it is worth establishing what all three Starlancer variants share โ because the chassis itself is a considerable value proposition.
The Starlancer is fundamentally engineered for deep-space confidence. Sturdy quantum and jump drives, dual quantum fuel tanks, dual hydrogen tanks, and MISC's well-earned reliability reputation combine to give crews the range and operational endurance to push far beyond the comfort zone of most comparably-priced vessels.
Armament is identical across variants at baseline: quad Size 4 guns under direct pilot control, two dual Size 4 remote turrets operated from the bridge's rear support seats, and sixteen Size 3 missiles across four dedicated launchers. The shield suite runs a large generator โ enough to give any would-be ambusher pause before committing.
The bridge seats pilot and copilot at the fore, with two support positions aft โ these rear seats double as the fire control stations for both remote turrets. Between these positions sit what this reviewer suspects are the ship's avionic computer and life support systems, though a full interior tour was not permitted at the time of writing.
Abaft the bridge, the Starlancer's layout follows a consistent blueprint across all variants. Four escape pods are housed in the forward section, adjacent to the traversal room. This room is the ship's vertical circulation hub: the primary passenger lift accesses both interior decks as well as the exterior ramp, with a conventional ladder as a backup. The lower traversal room provides access to the docking collar and airlock. At the lower fore, adjacent to the traversal room, sits the ship armory โ four dedicated suit lockers, weapon racks, and mission-specific storage for equipping the crew for whatever the Verse demands.

This is where the MAX distinguishes itself not just from other ships in its category, but from the Starlancer family's own baseline. Immediately abaft the traversal room on the upper deck lies the mess hall and recreation area โ and it is a genuine surprise.
MISC has installed a well-equipped food preparation area anchored by a four-person breakfast bar for casual meals, alongside a sizable booth for crew dinners that demand a proper table. The billiard table is not an affectation โ on long deep-space transits measured in days rather than hours, crew morale is a genuine operational asset.
Moving aft, four private cabins serve each crew member individually. These are not bunkroom slots or hot-rack arrangements. Each cabin features a large bed, a workspace desk, a private closet, additional storage โ and a fully private ensuite bathroom with toilet, shower, and sink. On a cargo vessel. At this size class.
MISC once again displays its corporate commitment to caring for the ship and its crew equally โ four private ensuite cabins on a cargo hauler is a statement.
Upper Deck at a Glance

The true heart of the MAX is its dual cargo architecture โ two distinct bays designed with different operational philosophies, yet working in concert to deliver 224 SCU of total capacity.
The Ventral Drop Bay sits amidships on the lower deck, accessed via a lift rather than a ramp. Its 128 SCU capacity is split evenly โ 64 SCU per side โ and the elevated walkway that spans the bay decouples cargo operations from crew circulation.
The Rear Ramp Bay offers the MAX's other dimension of versatility. Accessed via a generous ramp beneath the massive central main thruster, the bay's 96 SCU of capacity is arranged along side cargo grids โ leaving the centre lane entirely clear for a vehicle. An RSI Ursa can be driven aboard without displacing a single SCU of freight.
Cargo Capacity
224 SCU across dual bays โ competitive, flexible
Crew Comfort
4ร private ensuite cabins, full mess hall โ class-leading
Armament
Credible deterrent โ 4ร S4, dual turrets, 16 missiles
Vehicle Bay
Ursa-class without cargo penalty
Tractor Beams
None โ cargo handling is manual
Agility
Sluggish โ deep-space cruiser, not a runner

Cargo Capacity Comparison โ Deep-Space Hauler Class
To frame those numbers: the Starlancer MAX can carry the combined cargo equivalent of an RSI Zeus Clipper and an RSI Constellation Andromeda in a single hull. That is a remarkable headline for a ship that also carries four private crew cabins, a mess hall with a billiard table, and enough firepower to make any ambush a regrettable decision for the attackers.
Put together a team consisting of a pilot, cargo officer, security officer, and engineer โ and the Verse will be your oyster.
The MISC Starlancer MAX is a ship built around a coherent philosophy: if you are going to send four people into deep space for extended operations, give them a vessel that respects both the mission and the crew. The cargo capacity is competitive without being class-leading โ but it arrives bundled with amenities, flexibility, and armament that dedicated haulers cannot match.
The weaknesses are real. She is not nimble. The absence of integrated tractor beams means cargo handling is manual labor. But for a crew of four operating a dedicated circuit โ pilot on the bridge, cargo officer managing bay operations, security officer on the turrets and armory, engineer keeping the drives turning โ the Starlancer MAX offers a genuinely compelling package. She will get you far. She will get you there safely. And when things go sideways, she hits back.
