<p>This Advanced Navigation certification is part of a series of challenges that form the basis for the skills in helming an exploration ship. In this certification the candidate will navigate a large ship through a series of unmarked waypoints and timed travel legs to locate a specific place in deep space.</p><h2>----------------------------------------------------------------------</h2><h2><span style="font-weight:bold">Test Preparation</span></h2><p><span style="font-weight:bold">Contact a Certifier</span> to coordinate a testing time. This is an in-person only cert. Be patient for a response, our certifiers are busy. We suggest practicing the route and techniques.</p><p> </p><p><span style="font-weight:bold">Time commitment: </span>There is no time limit but plan on at least <span style="font-weight:bold">90 minutes to complete this certification</span>.</p><p> </p><p><span style="font-weight:bold">Muster at MIC L1</span></p><p> </p><p><span style="font-weight:bold">Timing / Stopwatch:</span> Use the Stopwatch to record flight timings. Please setup and become familiar with the in-ship stopwatch. To be able to use your stopwatch, you must bind it to a control.</p><ul><li>Open the “Options” menu [ESC]</li><li>Got to: Keybindings Tab / Advanced Controls Customization</li><li>Scroll down to the “Stopwatch” entry and select a keybind for them.</li></ul><p> </p><p><span style="font-weight:bold">Speed Reference and control: </span>To navigate, you will need to travel at known, controlled and consistent speeds that make it easy to calculate distance traveled. To do this:</p><ul><li><span style="font-weight:bold">Understand how to read and use your Speed Limiter.</span></li><li><span style="font-weight:bold">Set a constant speed.</span> It may be useful to set up some keybindings for this so tapping up or down can finely tune the limiter.<span style="font-weight:bold"> [Keybindings / Advanced Control Customization / Flight-Movement / Speed Limiter-Increase & Decrease]</span></li></ul><p> </p><p><span style="font-weight:bold">Long-range traversal: </span>To navigate to positions across the solar system, you will need to use quantum travel, and you will need to be able to drop out of quantum travel to get to positions other than those in the vicinity of identified quantum markers. You will need to know:</p><ul><li>That you break a Quantum Jump midway by holding down the [B] key (or other control for your quantum jump)</li></ul><p> </p><p><span style="font-weight:bold">Recommended Testing Ship: </span>Any medium size ship with a top speed of at least 1,000km/h and good stopping distance. (Terrapin, Mercury Star Runner, Cutlass, Corsair, etc.)</p><p> </p><p><span style="font-weight:bold">Key tips:</span></p><ul><li>Keep in mind to break partial quantum jumps before the target distance as it’s easier and quicker to make up the difference by flying toward the target than by turning around.</li><li>Practice setting the Speed Limiter at 1,000km/h</li></ul>
